Pam Lawson, a Louisville real estate agent with Lenihan Sotheby’s International Realty, got started in real estate after spending 22 years as a stay-at-home mom. She always had a passion for “house-flipping,” so the field seemed a natural fit for her once her kids were grown. “I was always helping my friends redo their homes. Picking out colors, I love design. It was just something I enjoyed,” she explains. On top of that, she enjoys helping people, which is another facet that makes Pam good at what she does.
These days, anyone can just go online and look at the MLS with websites like Zillow and Trulia. Of course, Louisville Realtors say it’s important to hire them to buy or sell your home, but what grounds do they use to make their claim? According to Pam, buying real estate is “extremely emotional” and linked to change in people’s lives, so it helps to have a guide in the trenches with you.
Pam sums it up like this: “A lot of times we deal with divorce, unfortunately, and we deal with death. We deal with exciting times, like being newly married. We deal with downsizing and letting go of your family home that you’ve raised your children with. That’s an emotional experience. It’s also the biggest asset that you have, so you’re fearful of doing the wrong thing or you’re hanging on too long and you need an outsider to help guide you, that’s knowledgeable, who’s been there, done that, but also that you feel comfortable connecting with.”
Other benefits of hiring a Louisville Realtor include:
- Having someone by your side who listens to your stories and cares about you
- Accessing an objective “soundboard” who can help you consider new factors for your decision-making
- Getting the power of a strong negotiator to help you get fair value
- Not having to worry about the “business side” of the deal and all the paperwork
“There’s a learning curve to all this. When you pick a doctor, you want the best doctor. If you’re going to have a knee replacement done you’re going to do your research. You’re going to find out who’s the right doctor to perform your surgery,” Pam explains. “We are professionals. Real estate agents are absolute professionals and we have the knowledge and the experience to get things done. Oftentimes, a buyer or seller, they think that they can do this and they try. Many times they are qualified to do it, but other times, most of the time, it becomes overwhelming.”
