Louisville Custom Kitchens
In part one of this podcast on “the most desirable kitchens in Louisville, Kentucky,” we heard from luxury custom home builder Jason Black of Artisan Signature Homes who described five must-have features buyers request. Walk-in pantries, a connection to the outdoors, special lighting, soft-close drawers and gas cooktops were among the top features of modern kitchens. In part two, Jason Black returns to describe five more kitchen features you’ll find in the well-designed homes of Norton Commons, as well as other Artisan Signature Homes neighborhoods.
“Once you have a good kitchen, it’s the heart of the home,” says Louisville Home Builder Jason Black. “The heart of the kitchen, then, is the large center island,” he adds. In the past, the center island was filled with double sinks and additional appliances, but that trend continues no more. Instead, buyers are looking for a cleaner look that functions as a spacious location for baking, decorating and prepping.
The large kitchen islands designed by Artisan Signature Homes typically feature a slab of granite or marble that is four of five feet wide by eight or ten feet long, supported by stout, solid cabinetry. Inside the islands, there is plenty of storage space for mixing bowls, cutlery, infamous “junk drawer” gadgets or whatever else a person may want to stow away. Popular custom options for the center island include a small prep sink on one end of the island, a warming drawer, or a small under-counter fridge.
Kitchen islands are also a popular place to add seating, explains Black. Customers choose from either backless stools that slide underneath the counter for a minimalist, tucked-away look or standard counter-height stools with backs that are ideal for kids who want to saddle up to the island to do their homework in the evenings.
